Has the immense pressure of keeping up with Arsenal in the title race finally shattered Manchester City's resilience? Many observers would certainly think so after witnessing Pep Guardiola's defending champions struggle against Nottingham Forest.
The home team, spurred on by their passionate supporters, displayed a disciplined defensive performance that made life incredibly challenging for City. Forest consistently disrupted the flow of City's game and generated several promising opportunities. Considering their performance, it's difficult to believe that Forest are currently embroiled in a relegation battle, but their endeavors were ultimately thwarted by subpar touches and questionable decision-making.
In stark contrast, City managed to conjure moments of brilliance when it mattered most. Josko Gvardiol emerged as the hero on this occasion, as the defender outpaced Morgan Gibbs-White and outjumped Murillo to head home Kevin De Bruyne's expertly delivered corner. It was Gvardiol's third goal in five games. The finish demonstrated both power and precision, leaving Matz Sels with little opportunity to react.

Despite managing to find the back of the net, City faced significant difficulties countering Forest's well-organized and energetic display. The fluidity of City's passing and movement noticeably declined below their usual high standards as they sought to secure a second goal that would effectively quash any hopes of a comeback for the hosts.
However, Forest remained a constant threat on the counterattack, causing problems for City's defense. Adding to City's concerns, goalkeeper Ederson was forced to be substituted at halftime due to a suspected shoulder injury sustained in a collision with Willy Boly. This injury setback was particularly worrisome as Ederson had recently returned to the team after recovering from a muscle problem. Later, Ederson was seen leaving the stadium with his left arm in a sling, indicating the severity of the injury.
In a tactical move, Guardiola summoned Erling Haaland from the bench, replacing Jack Grealish with half an hour to play. And in a display of pure simplicity, the Norwegian striker made an immediate impact, showcasing how the predatory instincts of a forward can truly tip the scales in tightly contested matches.

Collecting the ball just outside the penalty area from De Bruyne, Haaland artfully skidded past Forest defender Murillo, leaving him in his wake. With clinical precision, he then effortlessly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. It was a ruthless and calculated finish, exemplifying everything that Forest lacked on the day.
The pressure intensified for City following Arsenal's hard-fought triumph against Tottenham. The Gunners managed to establish a commanding three-goal advantage against their rivals, but had to endure a tense battle as Tottenham's Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min narrowed the deficit, creating a nervy finale. Arsenal, however, held their ground and secured what could prove to be a pivotal victory.
But City's win over Forest has effectively kept the title within their grasp. If both City and Arsenal continue their winning streaks, and City take advantage of their game in hand, Guardiola's team will secure the title with a two-point lead. "We prefer Arsenal lose, but we cannot control what they do," observed Guardiola. "Four games left, I don't think we can lose any points and we know exactly what we have to do."
