Established in 68 AD at the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the White Horse Temple was the first Buddhist temple built in China. At over 1,900 years old, it was one of the earliest examples of cultural exchange involving China. After its construction, Buddhism spread to Korea, Japan and parts of Southeast Asia. In the 20th century, India, Thailand and Myanmar all established halls within the White Horse Temple, making it the only temple in the world to combine Chinese, Indian, Thai and Burmese Buddhist architecture.
