PSV Eindhoven beat Sparta Rotterdam 4-2 at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on Sunday, to win their 25th Eredivisie title in club history and the first in six years.

PSV led No. 2 Feyenoord Rotterdam by nine points on the table before Sunday's game when there were three games to go of the 2023-24 season. Therefore, as long as PSV didn't lose to Sparta, they would win the title in advance.

Metinho scored first for Sparta in the eighth minute, but their lead lasted no longer than 11 minutes before Said Bakari's own goal enabled PSV to tie the score. Seven minutes later, Johan Bakayoko placed PSV on a one goal lead. Though Olivier Boscagli had an own goal for Sparta to tie the game at 2-2 before the end of the first half, he fixed his mistake by netting in the 67th minute for PSV to lead a gain.

Jordan Teze's goal in the 78th minute sealed the deal for PSV, which dominated the Eredivisie this season with 28 wins, three draws and one loss.

"We scored the most goals, conceded the fewest goals and created the most chances. We have shown that we are the best in the Eredivisie, very simple," Teze told reporters after Sunday's win. "Six years ago I was watching [from the stands] like everyone else. I hoped then that I would one day be able to experience such a moment myself."

Peter Bosz was appointed manager of PSV in July 2023 and led the club to win the league title in his first season. His attacking style of play, based on possession and aggressive pressing, made PSV one of the most intimidating teams in the Dutch top league this season. With 87 points, they remain hopeful of matching Ajax's record 93 points for one campaign 1972 with two more games to go, but back then one win was worth two points instead of three in the Eredivisie.
