Tcheng Ki-Tong, one of the first students from Fujian Naval Academy to study in France, impressed his supervisor, Prosper Giquel, so much that he arranged for him to study public law and regulation at Sciences Po. Tcheng later became a diplomat, representing the Qing court in Europe. He played a pivotal role in introducing China to Western society.
