Borussia Dortmund reached the Champions League final for the first time since 2013 after taking a second-leg 1-0 victory away at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Tuesday, beating the French Ligue 1 leaders 2-0 on aggregate.

Veteran Mats Hummels, who was in Dortmund's squad in their last final's trip 11 years ago, broke the deadlock and headed in the lone goal five minutes into the second half from a corner by Julian Brandt.

"I am very proud, very happy. We beat PSG and we kept a clean sheet. We had a bit of luck but we deserve to go to the final," said Dortmund manager Edin Terzic.

PSG, who had only reached the event's final once but fell short against Bayern in the 2020 showdown, wasted 30 shots with only five on target. They also had a penalty denied by referee Daniele Orsato who changed his decision and awarded a free-kick instead.

"We lacked efficiency," said PSG captain Marquinhos, aside from the fact that they also lacked some luck with four of their attempts hitting the woodwork in the second half by Warren Zaire-Emery, Nuno Mendes, Mbappe and Vitinha.

"There are still positives to take from this competition. At the beginning nobody thought we would go that far. We're out in the semi-finals but with a new coach and a new project," he added.

Dortmund have only won the Champions League once back in 1997. They next either play against 14-time winners Real Madrid, or set up an all-German final with Bayern Munich, with the two teams in the other semi-final fixture level at 2-2 after the first leg.

The final is set to take place at the Wembley Stadium in London, the UK, on June 1.
