Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, visited the National Museum of Serbia on Wednesday with Tamara Vucic, wife of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

The museum has a long history and rich collection, with delicate brushstrokes and abundant emotions in classic artworks, Peng said as she visited a fine art exhibition with Tamara Vucic.

It is not only a window for preserving and displaying cultural relics but also a hall for promoting civilization, Peng said, adding that she looks forward to strengthening cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Serbia and jointly building a bridge for dialogue of civilizations.

Peng and Tamara Vucic also visited an exhibition showcasing traditional handcrafts made by Serbian women, such as weaving, and interacted with them.

Serbian weaving is exquisite and distinctive, representing an important intangible cultural heritage that has been well preserved and promoted, Peng said.

The embroidery cultures of China and Serbia share similarities, and both sides can enhance mutual exchange and learning, encouraging young people from both countries to actively participate and promote the inheritance of traditional handcraft skills from generation to generation, she added.

Peng and Tamara Vucic also tried making felt balls, souvenirs made of felt wool preserving the tradition and cultural heritage of Serbia.

The National Museum of Serbia was built in 1844 and houses over 400,000 artifacts, making it the largest and oldest museum in Serbia.
