Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Hungarian capital Budapest on Wednesday for a state visit at the invitation of Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Hungarian fighter jets escorted Xi's plane after it entered the country's airspace. As his plane landed, Orban and his wife warmly welcomed him at the airport. On the way from the airport to his hotel, people warmly welcomed him by waving Chinese and Hungarian national flags.
This is not only Xi's first state visit to the country, but it also coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Hungary.
In 1949, Hungary was one of the first countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In 2017, the bilateral relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Upon his arrival, Xi said in a written speech that China and Hungary are good friends and good partners of mutual trust.
The Chinese president said he looks forward to meeting with Sulyok, Orban and other Hungarian leaders, and they will jointly outline a new blueprint for cooperation and development for taking the China-Hungary relationship to new heights.
