Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Hungary's "Eastern Opening" strategy are highly compatible and both countries will connect their development strategies more closely.
Xi made the remarks when he met the press jointly with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The Chinese president emphasized the profound political mutual trust as a solid foundation for the development of China-Hungary relations.
The two countries will connect their development strategies more closely, deepen economic, trade, investment, and financial cooperation, as well as advance key projects like the Hungary-Serbia Railway, Xi said, adding that both countries will expand cooperation in emerging industries and foster new quality productive forces to empower and facilitate economic and social development of the two countries.
Xi said he and Orban believe that cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries (China-CEEC Cooperation) conforms with the principles of extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit, and that it is a fine example of cross-regional cooperation.
China and Hungary will work together to expand the scope, broaden the coverage and raise the levels of the China-CEEC Cooperation so as to deliver greater benefits to the peoples of relevant countries, the Chinese President added.
Noting China values its comprehensive strategic partnership with the European Union (EU) and views Europe as an important pole in a multipolar world and a key partner in China's bid to advance Chinese modernization, Xi said China supports Hungary in playing a greater role within the EU and promoting greater progress in China-EU relations.
China and Hungary share similar views and positions on international and regional issues, he said, adding that both countries will strengthen communication and coordination in the multilateral field, and advocate vigorously for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.
Both China and Hungary will resolutely uphold international fairness and justice, and endeavor to build a community with a shared future for mankind, Xi added.
Chinese modernization means tremendous opportunities to the world, Xi said, adding that China wishes to enjoy common development and prosperity with Hungary.
Orban echoed the sentiment, describing the friendship between Hungary and China as profound, emphasizing mutual respect and support, and highlighting the benefits of cooperation for both peoples.
Hungary appreciates the valuable assistance provided by China during difficult times, he said, adding that China is an important and active force in the multipolar world.
Hungary supports Xi's global initiatives and agrees with China's proposals for promoting peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts such as the Ukraine crisis, Orban said.
Orban expressed Hungary's commitment to enhancing its relationship with China and becoming a steadfast partner in each other's modernization processes.
