China's permanent representative to the UN Fu Cong speaks at a briefing held in New York, U.S., May 9, 2024. /Chinese Mission to the UN
China's permanent representative to the UN Fu Cong on Thursday highlighted the role of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as part of the country's efforts in multilateralism and South-South cooperation.
The CIIE is a platform for sharing development opportunities, said Fu at a briefing held in New York. The meeting was held in preparation for the seventh CIIE and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum.
The CIIE enables some of the world's least developed countries to showcase their products in China, driving investment and industrial development, and assists the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Fu said.
Fu also explained that the purposes of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum – seeking solutions for sustainable development, scientific innovation, food safety, and digital and energy transition – are highly consistent with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
