A 750-kilovolt (kV) power transmission and transformation project has been put into operation in northwest China's Qinghai Province, according to the State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company.
The project, situated at an average altitude of 3,175 meters above sea level in Gonghe County, China's Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, will help connect electricity generated by new energy projects in the province to the power grid, including photovoltaic and wind power projects.
The project is expected to increase annual clean energy power generation by more than 9 billion kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to saving about 3.12 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 8.64 million tonnes.
Qinghai is home to the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers and is known for its rich water, solar and wind power resources. The total installed clean energy capacity in Qinghai reached 51.07 million kilowatts in 2023.
