Gulangyu, located off the coast of Xiamen in southeast China's Fujian Province, is a pedestrian-only island and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The name Gulangyu, or Kulangsu, is the literal translation of Chinese for drum, wave and islet, as the sound made by waves when they pound a reef, creating a drum-like sound. The island attracts millions of tourists each year. Follow our China Up Close series and take in this island view of Gulangyu.
