The Chinese mainland said on Monday that Taiwan is excluded from the World Health Organization (WHO) annual assembly World Health Assembly (WHA) because of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority's separatist position.

The Mainland's position on the Taiwan region's participation in the activities of WHO is consistent and clear, that is, this must be handled under the one-China principle, which is also a basic principle enshrined in UNGA Resolution 2758 and WHA Resolution 25.1, said Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

He said that the DPP authority has stubbornly stuck to the separatist position of "Taiwan independence," which means that the political foundation for Taiwan region's participation in the WHA no longer exists.

The Chinese mainland attaches great importance to the health and well-being of the compatriots in the Taiwan region and has made proper arrangements for Taiwan's participation in global health affairs, he said.

Over the past year alone, medical and technical experts from the Taiwan region took part in WHO technical activities 21 times, which involved 24 participants, he said, adding that the Taiwan region has timely access to WHO information on global public health emergencies.

The DPP authority is hyping up Taiwan's WHA participation because they see it as a potential way to expand the so-called international space for "Taiwan independence," he said.

The deceptive and provocative acts of the DPP authority have long been seen through by compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits as well as the international community, and are doomed to fail, he added.
