The China Coast Guard recently had a pleasant encounter with hundreds of dolphins and whales while on a regular patrol near Huangyan Island in the South China Sea. It was a rare sight, even for officers who spend two-thirds of the year patrolling the waters. However, it isn't always this calm and beautiful. The CCG has been preparing for possible emergencies in the sometimes ruthless sea.
