Environmental improvements in the Liubuxi National Nature Reserve in central China's Hunan Province are attracting more and more rare wild animals, including the hairy deer, crab-eating mongoose, white-necked pheasant and Japanese night heron. This is the first time the Japanese night heron has been found in Hunan. Its breeding grounds are mainly in Japan, and it usually crosses the eastern coastal areas of China on its migratory route.
