On the morning of May 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is in China on a state visit, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Welcoming his Russian counterpart, President Xi congratulated Putin and the Russian people on his recent swearing in as the country's president for a fifth term. Xi expressed belief that, under Putin's leadership, Russia will make new and greater progress in national development.
