Chinese mergansers fledge from nests at Changbai Mountains

01:23

After several days of stakeout, CGTN reporters at Changbai Mountains captured rare footage of multiple Chinese mergansers fledging from their nests. Young mergansers, some just around 24 hours old, bravely leap from nests several meters high under the guidance of their mother, initiating their first flight of life. Chinese mergansers are classified as a level-one protected species in China, with only around 3,000 individuals remaining worldwide. Their unique fledging behavior is a rare spectacle in the natural world.
