A barge hit a bridge in Galveston, Texas, causing an oil spill. Early estimates indicate up to 7,500 liters of oil may have spilled into surrounding waters when the barge carrying fuel broke free from a tugboat and slammed into a bridge in Galveston, Texas, on Wednesday. Aerial video showed portions of a rail line that runs parallel to the bridge on top of the barge. The rail line is no longer in service. The Coast Guard said earlier that it deployed a boom, or barrier, to contain the spill, which had forced the closure of about 10.5 kilometers of the waterway.
