The China Coast Guard (CCG) South China Sea branch and various provincial coast guard and fishery administration departments jointly carried out comprehensive law enforcement operations in the South China Sea, north of 12 degrees north latitude, from May 1 to 15.
The operations aimed to safeguard national marine fishery rights and interests during the annual summer fishing moratorium in the South China Sea. The CCG also increased supervision in key waters in response to infringements by foreign fishing boats during the period. A total of 138 foreign fishing boats were driven away, 14 were boarded and inspected, and 10 people were arrested on one boat.
