In October 2023, the latest conflict between Israel and Hamas began. Since then, the Israeli army has launched a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip and residents have continued to flee southward. As Israel's military continues to advance, millions of Gazans have sought shelter in Rafah, the southernmost part of Gaza. Now, this "last refuge" is also under threat. According to the United Nations, "Large parts of the city are now a 'ghost town,' with UN humanitarians reporting on Tuesday that some 450,000 Gazans have been forcibly displaced from the area by Israeli evacuation orders in the last week.

CGTN visited a school shelter in Khan Yunis to interview Gazans gathering there. One of them said, "We were displaced from Gaza. The people here have seen death many times. We are desperate."
