Heavy rains pounded cities in south China from the early morning hours on Sunday, disrupting traffic and trapping residents. Nanning City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has issued the highest-level rainstorm warning amid inclement weather. Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, strong winds and hail began in the early hours of Sunday morning. Floodwater levels rose to around one meter in some areas of Beihai City, trapping residents and vehicles. Rain is expected to hit parts of Guangdong, Guangxi and the Pearl River over the next three days. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters activated a Level-IV emergency response due to anticipated heavy rainfall.
