On May 17, after a 12-day visit in China, UN special rapporteur on unilateral coercive measures and human rights, Alena Douhan, held a media briefing. She concluded that unilateral sanctions against China, Chinese entities, and individuals do not conform to international law. They also do not meet the criteria for collective countermeasures under Article 48 of the Draft Articles on Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts, and thus constitute unilateral coercive measures.
