At least one person was killed after a Singapore Airlines passenger plane encountered turbulence and made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, the airline said.

"We can confirm that there are multiple injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft ... There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board," it said.

Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, operating from London (Heathrow) to Singapore on May 20, encountered severe turbulence en route. The airline said the aircraft diverted to Bangkok and landed at 3:45 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

So far, 18 individuals have been hospitalized. Another 12 are being treated in hospitals. The remaining passengers and crew are being examined and given treatment, where necessary, at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, the airline said in a statement.
