Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday reiterated that the Taiwan question is at the center of China's core interests.

Separatist activities seeking "Taiwan independence" are the most destructive factor to peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Astana.

Wang's latest remarks come a day after he said the one-China principle is what underpins peace across the Taiwan Straits while expounding on China's solemn position regarding the assumption of office of Taiwan region's new leader Lai Ching-te on Monday.

"The ugly acts of Lai Ching-te and others who betray the nation and ancestors are disgraceful," Wang said on Tuesday.

But no matter how hard they try, nothing can stop China from achieving a complete reunification, he said, adding that "Taiwan will return to the embrace of the motherland."

"All 'Taiwan independence' separatists will be nailed to the pillar of shame in history," said Wang.

Noting that the SCO member states resolutely abide by the one-China principle of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and in line with the basic norms governing international relations, he said, "China appreciates this."

"I believe that you will continue to support the Chinese people's just cause of opposing 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities and striving for national reunification," he told the meeting in Kazakhstan.
