CMG launches program on AI in Shenzhen

A program on artificial intelligence (AI) was launched on Wednesday in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province.

The program is co-sponsored by China Media Group (CMG), the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission and the Guangdong government.

A white paper on the development of AI by CMG was released at the event. The document puts forward four basic principles and three-pronged measures, with a view toward providing a guiding framework for the healthy and orderly development of the technology.

The program is scheduled to be broadcast in June across CMG's multiple platforms.

Speaking at the event, Peng Jianming, a member of CMG's editorial board and the general manager of its general manager office, said that in recent years, CMG has grasped the trend of AI and actively laid out AI audio-visual applications. He said the program brings together technology, enterprises, people and creative forces in China's AI industry to present an audio-visual feast reflecting the highest level of development of China's AI industry.

Fan Xiaowei, director general of the Cyber Communication Bureau of the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, said at the event that the office attaches great importance to technological innovation to promote the construction of the all-media communication system and "technological empowerment" to promote the formation of a new pattern of online mainstream public opinion.

Fan sees the program as a testament to acute perception, proactive adoption and timely integration of cutting-edge technology in broadcasting. He said it stands as an innovative initiative and vibrant practice aimed at fostering the high-quality advancement of the media industry.

Zhang Ling, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and head of the Publicity Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that the program allows the attendees to explore the infinite possibilities brought by AI to leverage new quality productivity forces through AI's deep integration in art, design, education and other industries. It promotes the creative transformation and innovative development of China's traditional culture, she added.

Zhang also said that Shenzhen is expediting the establishment of AI-related pilot zones.
