Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, was announced as the Premier League Manager of the Year by the English top football league announced on Tuesday.

Having led City to win their fourth straight Premier League title this season, Guardiola won the Manager of the Year award for the fifth time since he arrived at the Etihad Stadium in 2016. Only former Manchester United's legendary boss, Sir Alex Ferguson (11), has won it more times.

"I want to share it, yes, oh yes! Especially with Mikel for the incredible job he has done until the last game, bringing us to our limits," Guardiola said.

City beat Klopp's Liverpool and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal to win the Premier League this season, just like Guardiola defeated the two in addition to Unai Emery of Aston Villa and Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth to win the Manager of the Year trophy.

"Of course, for Jurgen, for the unforgettable battles for many, many years. And Unai Emery, making something unbelievable again to bring Aston Villa to the Champions League," Guardiola added. "And Andoni Iraola, with Bournemouth, being his first season in the Premier League, doing what he has done, coming back from the tough start of the season. It is an honor to be alongside all of them and to win this trophy. We will defend this award as best as possible in the future."

Though City failed to repeat their treble-winning performance after losing to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semifinals, they added their sixth title in the English top league under Guardiola by scoring Premier League-leading 96 goals and allowing the second-fewest 29 goals in 38 games. The club remained undefeated in their last 23 league games and secured 19 wins.

"Winning four titles in a row is one of the proudest achievements of my career. This is the toughest league in the world, and our competitors have played some incredible football," Guardiola said.

City will play Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 25 in an attempt to defend that championship.
