Professor Zhou Weimin, a distinguished figure in Hainan Province's history and culture and a veteran academic at Hainan University, passed away on May 20 at the age of 91. Over more than three decades, Zhou focused on the ancient navigation maps used by Hainan fishermen, known as "Genglubu." The result of his exhaustive exploration was a book covering 24 versions of "Genglubu," meticulously detailing islands, reefs and maritime features within the South China Sea. Earlier this year, Professor Zhou shared his expertise in an interview for the CGTN documentary "Sovereignty at Stake," illuminating the profound historical significance of these invaluable navigation charts.
