Team China's badminton players made an impressive start on the opening day of the 2024 Malaysia Masters on Tuesday, dominating the doubles events.
In the women's doubles category, Keng Shuliang and Zhang Chi showcased their prowess by defeating Hung Yi-Ting and Lee Yu-Hsuan from Team Chinese Taipei with a score of 21-14, 21-15. Similarly, Li Yijing and Luo Xumin secured their spot in the last 16 by triumphing over Chinese Taipei pair Cheng Yu-Pei and Sun Yu-Hsing with 21-10, 21-18.
On the men's side, the third-seeded duo of He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu displayed exceptional skill, defeating Chang Ko-Chi and Po Li-Wei of Chinese Taipei 21-12, 23-21 to reach the second round.
However, Xie Haonan and Zeng Weihan faced a setback as they were defeated by Malaysia's Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King 21-16, 21-12.
The Malaysia Masters commenced on May 21 and runs until May 26 as the teams vie for points to enhance their international rankings. These rankings will ultimately determine the seeding for the upcoming Paris Olympics in two months.
