Rizhao Port was built in 1982 and opened in 1986. With 76 berths and over 80 international and domestic container routes, it has emerged as a global hub for energy and bulk commodity transshipment, ranking first in China in the handling of seven cargo categories, including iron ore, soybeans and petroleum coke.

In recent years, Rizhao Port has embraced technological advancements, spearheading the development of smart and green port operations. The construction of the world's first open-shore, fully automated container terminal has revolutionized port efficiency, boosting single-machine productivity by 50 percent and reducing overall costs by 70 percent.
