The burial ceremony of Iran's late President Ebrahim Raisi began on Thursday at the holy shrine of Imam Reza in his hometown of Mashhad in northeastern Iran.

Raisi and members of his entourage, including the late Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, died in a helicopter crash in Iran's East Azarbaijan Province on Sunday.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Monday declared five days of national mourning over the incident.

A farewell ceremony was held for Raisi, Amir-Abdollahian and the others on Tuesday in Tehran, with many Iranians attending.

Iranians also mourned their deaths at a funeral procession held on Wednesday in Tehran.

At Wednesday's tribute, Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran's top leader and a former speaker of the Iranian parliament, told reporters that Raisi was very "well-mannered and humble," two characteristics that helped improve the relationship between politicians and the people, according to Iran's Students' News Agency.

Mohammad Hosseini, social and cultural adviser to Iran's president and the former vice president for parliamentary affairs, said Raisi was very popular and loved by the Iranian people, adding he was "hard-working, sincere, pious and selfless."
