The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army launched military drills around the island of Taiwan on Thursday. The Theater Command said the two-day drills represent strong punishment for the separatist acts by "Taiwan independence" forces. Zheng Jian, a professor of the Graduate Institute for Taiwan Studies at Xiamen University, says any countermeasures against the pursuit of "Taiwan independence" are reasonable.
