The tulou, or earth-built dwellings, of Fujian are recognized as treasures of traditional architecture for their unique design, cultural significance and embodiment of the concept of harmonious coexistence with nature. The tulou are usually rectangular or circular in form, with a simple, elegant exterior and a well-furnished interior. As homes, they are imbued with the diligence, wisdom and pursuit of excellence of the Hakka people.
