A 48-year-old man was shot dead by police on Friday in New Caledonia, a day after French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to the riot-hit French-ruled Pacific island, public broadcaster La 1ere reported, citing the local public prosecution office.

It was the seventh reported death on the island since the start of unrest last week.
