An Israeli airstrike triggered a massive blaze killing at least 45 people in a tent camp in the Gaza city of Rafah, officials said on Monday, prompting an outcry from global leaders who urged the implementation of a World Court order to halt the assault.

Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit of the League of Arab States (AL) on Monday criticized Israel for the attack.

In a post published on social media platform X, Aboul-Gheit called the bombing, which took on Sunday, a "war crime" and urged "the international courts to bring those responsible to international justice."

Meanwhile, Egypt also condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli forces' bombing of tents, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The bombing that left hundreds of casualties was a "blatant violation" of the International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Convention of 1949 over the protection of civilians during the time of war, the statement added.

Egypt called on Israel to comply with its legal obligations as an occupying force and to implement the measures issued by the International Court of Justice for the immediate halt of military operations and any other measures in the Palestinian city of Rafah.

European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell issued a stern condemnation on Monday regarding the Israeli strikes.

"Horrified by news coming out of Rafah on Israeli strikes killing dozens of displaced persons, including small children. I condemn this in the strongest terms," the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said through social media platform X.

"There is no safe place in Gaza," he said, urging the immediate stop of the attacks and adherence to the orders of the International Court of Justice and international humanitarian law by all parties involved.

At least 45 people, including children, women, and the elderly, were killed during Sunday's Israeli bombing of tents for displaced people in Rafah, the enclave's southernmost city where more than 1 million Palestinian refugees are seeking shelter amid the intense conflict.

The Israeli forces said they bombed the tents to kill two senior Hamas officials and claimed the army is investigating the incident.
