'Lowering the fire only postpones the explosion'

05:12

Yair Bunzel is an Israeli military veteran and anti-war activist. Recalling his service during the 1982 Lebanon War, he tells the story of a friend and comrade-in-arms: "He was not physically hurt, but he experienced very traumatic experiences."

Today, Yair Bunzel is a member of an organization of Israeli veterans and Palestinian civilians that, for the past seven years, has been calling for an end to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Describing the current situation, he says: "It's a pressure cooker. It's sealed, and the energy has nowhere to go. It must explode. Lowering the fire is not solving anything. It just takes longer for the thing to explode."
