The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) delivered its sixth C919 aircraft to China Eastern Airlines on Monday night, China Media Group reported. This new jet conducted a ferry flight from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on Tuesday morning.

As China's first homegrown large passenger aircraft, the C919 is also celebrating the one-year anniversary of its commercial operation, as its first commercial flight was carried out on May 28, 2023, from Shanghai to Beijing.

Registered as B-919G, the sixth delivery marks the first of the additional 100 C919 aircraft ordered by China Eastern.

Compared to the first five the airline received, the new aircraft features upgrades in both the cockpit system display and the cabin entertainment system, the company said.

Overseas operations

China Eastern revealed that it will operate a charter flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai on June 1, according to the chairman of the company, Wang Zhiqing. This will mark the C919's first commercial flight outside the Chinese mainland, further expanding the influence of this domestically produced large passenger aircraft.

Over the past year of commercial operation, the C919 aircraft has been operating on three routes from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport: to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in Sichuan Province, to Beijing Daxing International Airport and to Xi'an Xianyang International Airport in Shaanxi Province.

With the delivery of the new batch of units, China Eastern is expected to expand its C919 fleet to 10 by the end of this year.
