Urumqi in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is home to the country's largest Akhal-Teke horse breeding and show base. The breed, which originated in Turkmenistan, is known for its excellent speed, endurance and intelligence. Visitors to the base can see performances by famous horses, including Akhal-Teke horses, Shetland ponies from Scotland and Friesian horses from the Netherlands, as well as camels.
