The European Council on Tuesday extended sanctions against Syria until June 1, 2025, according to a statement.

The sanctions currently in place target a total of 316 people and 86 entities. Those included in the list are subject to an asset freeze, and EU citizens and companies are forbidden from financial dealings with them.

"Natural persons are additionally subject to a travel ban, which prevents them from entering or transiting through EU territories," the statement said.
