China, Algeria pledge to continue mutual support, cooperation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, with the two sides vowing to continue their firm support for each other on issues related to their core interests and enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Attaf is in Beijing to attend the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that China and Algeria are sincere friends and natural partners.

The Chinese people will not forget that in 1971, Algeria, together with other friendly countries, put forward a proposal to restore the legitimate seat of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations, which won overwhelming support, and consolidated commitment to the one-China principle within the international community, he noted.

Wang also recalled that Algeria took the lead among Arab countries in establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership with China 10 years ago.

He added that China is willing to work with Algeria to further implement the important consensus of the two heads of state and build a dynamic China-Algeria comprehensive strategic partnership with more connotations.

China firmly supports Algeria in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and opposes interference by external forces in its internal affairs.

China is willing to work with Algeria to strengthen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure construction, information and communications, new energy, and the digital economy within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Wang added.

Wang said China is ready to continue to work closely with Algeria to defend international justice and the interests of developing countries and to jointly promote an early, comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestine question.

Attaf said that Algeria and China have always fought side by side in the process of fighting for national independence and liberation and safeguarding the rights and interests of developing countries, and have forged a deep friendship.

The Algerian side abides by the one-China principle, and has always stood by China on issues related to its core interests and major concerns, he reiterated.

Attaf called on the two sides to take the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Algeria-China comprehensive strategic partnership as an opportunity to further strengthen all-round cooperation between the two sides and to promote greater development of the relations between the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis and other issues.

Wang Yi emphasized that China advocates resolving the Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and negotiation, has always been committed to promoting peace talks, and supports all efforts conducive to a political settlement of the crisis.

Attaf said that his country appreciates China's impartial position on the Ukrainian issue, and believes that the six-point consensus on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis reached between China and Brazil is highly consistent with his country's position, which will help to put an end to the war and restore peace as soon as possible.
