China, Libya to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen cooperation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called on China and Libya to further consolidate mutual political trust, enhance communication and strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during his meeting with the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) and Foreign Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, who is in Beijing to attend the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.

Stressing China highly appreciated Libya's justice stance on the Taiwan question, Wang said China always supported Libya's stabilization and development, the safeguarding of its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and the Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political transition process.

Wang called on the two sides to jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, to continuously enrich China-Libya friendly and cooperative relations.

Dbeibah, for his part, said the Libyan side attaches great importance to the development of its relations with China, and thanked China for its objective and impartial stance on the Libyan issue.

He added that Libya-China practical cooperation plays an important role in promoting the economic and social development of Libya.

Dbeibah reiterated that the Libyan side will firmly adhere to the one-China principle and resolutely support China in safeguarding its core interests.

He also said that the Libyan side highly appreciates China's impartiality and its support for the just position of the Arab countries in the United Nations Security Council, and expects China to play a greater role in promoting the early resolution of the Palestinian question.
