China issues report on U.S. human rights violations in 2023

China's State Council Information Office on Wednesday issued a report on U.S. human rights violations in 2023.

The report stated that the human rights situation in the U.S. continued to deteriorate in 2023. Civil and political rights are not effectively guaranteed because of political party strife, government dysfunction and governance failures. Mass shootings continue to occur at a high rate along with police abuse and violence in law enforcement, and the credibility of the government continues to decline, it said.

The report pointed out that racism was deeply rooted and racial discrimination was serious in the U.S., and systemic racism against people of African descent had infiltrated the U.S. police force and the criminal justice system. 

The polarization between the rich and the poor in the U.S. has increased, with low-income families struggling to pay for basic necessities, such as food, rent and utilities, it said.

The report showed that the rights of women and children in the U.S. have long been systematically violated, with some 54,000 women losing their jobs each year as a result of pregnancy discrimination, and drug abuse is spreading among the teenage population. 

The U.S. has a serious problem of exclusion and discrimination against immigrants, it said, adding that immigrants and their children were subjected to mass arrests, human trafficking and exploitation.

The report emphasized that the U.S. has long practiced hegemony, pursued power politics and abused force and unilateral sanctions. The U.S. has continued to send weapons such as cluster munitions to other countries, exacerbating regional tensions and armed conflicts and causing large numbers of civilian casualties and serious humanitarian crises, the report said.

The U.S. has also carried out "foreign agent" operations on a massive scale, destabilizing the societies and violating the human rights of other countries, the report added.
