It has been 10 years since China's Grand Canal, or the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In April 2023, in southeast China's Fujian Province, a team led by Zheng Chunhui, a representative inheritor of Putian wood carving, a national intangible cultural heritage, began a five-year journey to create a giant wood carving of the canal. The artwork is composed of nine camphor trees that are over 500 years old, and showcases the prosperous canal transportation and cultural landscapes of the cities along its banks.
