The Lusail Stadium, an architectural marvel situated in Lusail, Qatar, holds a significant place not only in the world of sport but also in the realm of international cooperation. In November 2016, HBK Contracting from Qatar and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) won the bid to jointly construct the main venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Lusail Stadium, the largest and most advanced professional soccer stadium built by a Chinese company, also marks the first time a Chinese enterprise has constructed a World Cup venue. The involvement of CRCC in building such a key infrastructure project in Qatar signifies the growing influence and trust in Chinese construction capabilities on the global stage, and showcases the deepening ties between China and the Arab world.
As a calling card of Qatar, the Lusail Stadium is featured on the 10-riyal banknote issued in 2020, symbolizing the nation's pride in this magnificent structure. The venue boasts a capacity of 80,000 people and its design was inspired by the traditional hand-crafted Qatari bowls.
