Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday said that China and Russia should unite and grow the Global South.

The two countries should lead global governance with action and responsibility, said Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, while delivering a speech at the China-Russia High-level Think Tank Forum via video link.

He said China and Russia should firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, strengthen multilateral coordination and cooperation and promote a multipolar world and economic globalization with true multilateralism.

Wang also called on the two countries to support each other, adhere to open cooperation and conduct exchanges and learn from each other.

China and Russia should continue to uphold the principle of non-alliance, non-confrontation and not targeting any third party and deepen political mutual trust, he said.

The China-Russia High-level Think Tank Forum, jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Russian International Affairs Council, has been held annually since 2018. This year, the forum focused on China-Russia cooperation in the new era and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
