China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Thursday activated a level-4 emergency response against Typhoon Maliksi to better cope with the gales and downpours that would hit southern and southeastern parts of the country.
Typhoon Maliksi, the second typhoon this year, was detected 175 kilometers south of Yangjiang City in Guangdong Province at 2 p.m. on Friday. It is expected to make its landfall in the coastal areas from Dianbai District in Maoming City to Zhuhai City in south China's Guangdong Province in the evening at tropical storm level.

Over the next three days, regions including Guangdong, Fujian and Hainan provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will be hit by downpours or rainstorms, according to the country's Ministry of Emergency Management on Thursday.
Flood control authorities have instructed Guangdong and Hainan to monitor the situation closely and make detailed responses to ensure people's safety and minimize losses. Related local governments have also activated their emergency response, with measures to call back ships, evacuate residents and eliminate risks.
