The European Union announced on Friday it has imposed sanctions on six individuals and three entities in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The EU alleged nine DPRK individuals and entities were involved in the country's activities related to "illegal weapons programmes" and supporting Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

The sanctions include asset freezes and a travel ban to the European Union, the EU said.

Earlier in May, Kim Yo Jong, sister of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, again denied arms exchanges with Russia, state media KCNA reported, saying the nation's recently developed and updated weapons systems were not for sale to any other countries.
