Culture Atlas: 3 things you need to know about Tunisia

01:00

Nestled in North Africa, Tunisia is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Mediterranean." In 1964, Tunisia and China formally established diplomatic relations, making this year the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties. In 1986, Tunisia gifted China a batch of soft-seed pomegranate saplings, which were subsequently cultivated by the Henan Provincial Economic Forestry and Seedling Station. Since then, the soft-seed pomegranate has gained widespread popularity in China, becoming a favorite among domestic consumers. In 2018, Tunisia and China signed a memorandum of understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative, and large-scale public projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises, such as the Mellegue dam, are also progressing smoothly.
