China renews blue alert for rainstorms in various regions

CGTN

China's national observatory renewed a blue alert for rainstorms on Sunday, as the country expects heavy rainfall to batter some of its southern, southwestern and eastern regions.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Downpours are expected to hit parts of Guizhou, Guangdong, Taiwan and Guangxi on Sunday and next Monday, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast.

There are areas in Guangxi and Taiwan that will see up to 130 millimeters of rainfall, while some places in these regions are expected to encounter over 60 mm of hourly precipitation, according to the NMC.

The center advised local authorities to take appropriate measures to prepare for rainstorms, and reminded drivers of possible road waterlogging. It also warned about risks of rain-induced geological disasters in Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong.
