China achieved its first-ever high-altitude deployment of ten-bundled conductors as part of the Sichuan-Chongqing 1,000 kilovolt ultra-high voltage (UHV) alternative current (AC) project. Bundled conductors are a type of electrical conductor used in UHV transmission lines to increase power transfer capacity, reduce corona loss, improve mechanical strength, and reduce electromagnetic interference.
The project will include four UHV substations in Chongqing and neighboring Sichuan Province. Upon completion, about 35 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean-energy electricity will be transmitted per year.
