China calls on UAE and Iran to resolve difference peacefully

CGTN

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday called on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran to resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue and consultation.

Iranian media reported on Sunday that the Iranian Foreign Ministry had summoned the Chinese ambassador in Tehran to protest about a China-UAE statement related to UAE-Iran territorial disputes over the three Gulf islands of Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb, and the Lesser Tunb.

"China's position on the three islands conflicts is consistent and we call on relevant parties to resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue and consultation," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, when addressing a question on the issue at a regular press briefing.

The relevant contents of the joint statement of China and the UAE are also consistent with China's position, she added.

Noting that China and Iran have strong relations, Mao said China attaches importance to the development of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Iran.
