A root-seeking festival to celebrate the birth of the legendary ancestor of Chinese people has been held in Suizhou City of central China's Hubei Province.
It commemorates the Yan Emperor, also known as Shen Nong or the "Divine Farmer," who is believed to be born on the 26th day of the fourth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. Over 2,500 Chinese participated in the ceremony this year, which featured bowing, ancestral worshipping and instrumental performances.
The event is included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.
